Miss Adrian Johnston of McKinney, Texas who currently resides in Dallas, Texas. Her hobbies include blogging, Wine and hanging with her dog, Hope!

Are you currently touring?
“No, I'm taking off for the holidays to spend time with family, buuuuut Jan 2015 I have a new single coming out and will be announcing a new tour with some special friends! hint: #GirlsLikeUs “

Who all have you toured with?
“I've played with Jack Ingram, Zane Williams, Johnny Cooper, Mark McKinney, The Rankin Twins, Turnpike Troubadours, Reckless Kelly.... you can see everyone on my website: adrianjohnstonmusic.com”

When and why did you start playing?
“Music became a true "profession" for me about 2.5 years ago - I was singing around Texas at the Opry's and entered into a radio competition and needed a full band and original music, so I spent months writing and putting a band together and the rest is history! That was Sept 2012.”

Which instruments do you play?
“I play a little guitar and mandolin, but the band won't let me play live just yet :)”

What drives your passion?
“The ability to be better than myself. Every show, every song, every tour I try to out-do myself and be the best I can be personally. Music is my passion and being surrounded by it is inspiring!”

Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
“Driving in my car, ha! I listen to funny saying people say and write them down, or I'll hear a story on the radio and it paints a picture in my head that I think would be a cool song. I have uniformed writing process, but I do make myself sit down and focus on some song ideas I have sang into my phone's voice memos and go from there!:

What were the first songs you learned?
“Oh man, I have been singing my whole life so probably some Disney song! The first song I learned on guitar was Miranda Lambert, "More Like Her".”

Is your family musical?
“Kinda! My dad is a great karaoke singer and my mom can play a mean triangle, haha! My grandmother plays piano amazingly, my cousin used to be in a band and was who I looked up to growing up... my uncle can play guitar/mando/banjo and I have an aunt who cut a record back in the 90's! We all appreciate music whether or not we can play/sing it!”

Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?
“I grew up listening to Dixie Chicks and LOVE their writing style and sass, Faith Hill and Shania Twain were always in my CD player growing up and I loved their stage presence!”

Which famous musicians have you learned from?
“This might be obviously but I love Carrie Underwood's voice - Her songs are what challenge me the most and I make myself learn them and perfect them. I figure if I can sing a Carrie Underwood song then my voice training is working!”

What are your fondest musical memories?
“There have been a few over the years, but the moment you look at the crowd and they are singing along and know your songs - that moment NEVER gets old. I can't look at my parents when I sing "Life Changes", haha.”

Were you influenced by old records & tapes?
“Oh yes! 100% love the oldies - Sheryl Crow 1990's - MY JAM. “

Who are your favorite musicians?
“Bonnie Raitt, Dixie Chicks, Carrie Underwood... Power women!”

What is a typical week like for you?
“I work a full time job actually, so I will go from working all day, straight to a show and then rinse and repeat. If I have a night off I'm either with my TCU alumni group, Junior League volunteering or making myself sit down and write!”

What's your favorite thing about being on the road?
“I love being with the band and hanging out. That's when you really get to know your band mates and when you create a true friendship bond you can see that on stage during a show.”

What's the funniest thing that's happened on the road?
“This past 4th of July we play a festival in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma, and everything about that trip was hilarious.... late night trips to Wal-Mart and all.”

Best place to eat while on the road?
“Whataburger!”

What's the best town play in?
“I love my hometown, Dallas! Because all my friends and family can come to the show :)”

Since everyone was a startup once, can you give any smaller or local bands looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
“Keep pressing on! You are going to be told no 10x more than yes. You can't let it hurt your feelings, grow thick skin and continue to perfect your craft!”
