Michael Moad originally of Odessa,Texas and currently resides in the great city of Lubbock,Texas! Michael is the bass player for Dalton Domino and the Front Porch Family band!  His hobbies include; growing a beard, wrestling crocodiles, chainsaw sculpting, dancing like an idiot, and a borderline obsession with band posters.

(You can see Michael and the band on the latest episode of Lone Star Roads Texas Music Texas Made)

When and why did you start playing?

"Well, I like to believe it all started when my parents bought me this tiny guitar when I was about 5. The thing never stayed in tune and I didn't really know how to play it, but i would sit there and strum that sucker all day. When I was 15 my parents bought me my first bass and I fell in love with the sounds it made, the rumbling from the low end under my feet, and the melodic tones of the mids and highs, I was hooked. As to why, I’m really not sure why, I guess music has always been there for me my entire life, whether I was listening to it or playing it. Its always been a form of meditation for me, a quick and effective escape from everyday life, but I'm sure there are a lot of people in the world who feel the same way."

Which instruments do you play?

"I mainly play bass but I dabble a little on drums and guitar."

What were the first songs you learned?

"Voodoo Chile (slight return) by Jimi Hendrix"

Is your family musical?

"I had a great uncle who played a little but I never got to meet him, I also have a cousin out in Oklahoma that plays music, but other then that there hasn't been any Moad musicians that i know of."

Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?

"There are many musicians, local and national, that I look up to. But if I had to pin point, it would come down to two musicians, Jimi Hendrix, and Jaco Pastorious. Both would push their instruments past the limits of what everyday people thought was possible. The thing i love about Jimi was that he was a true artist, he would play a 60,000 sold out arena then go out and play open mic for free."

Best place to eat while on the road?
"Dairy Queen."

Thank you so much Michael! I wish the best for you :)
