Mr Marshall Vines is originally from Rochester Hills, MI and currently resides in the big city of Lubbock, TX! His hobbies include Songwriting, playing guitar, and crossfit

When and why did you start playing?
“I started taking playing seriously when i got out of the military, that was around 2010. I just felt like i had to get some things off my chest and put myself out there.”

Which instruments do you play?
“Mainly guitar, I’m slowly learning piano.”

What drives your passion?
“I just like being around great musicians and music. That's all there is to it.”

Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
“Inspiration is mostly my life experiences; sometimes it can be random and unexpected. The songs themselves are usually about love, heartache, and military life. Here recently I’m experimenting with rock n roll, blues, and some jazz. My process starts with a melody, some mumbling of words until something I like comes out haha. Then i find a key i want to work with and a chord progression, and iron out the lyrics.”

What was the first songs you learned?
“The first song i learned was "Outside" by Staind”

Is your family musical?
“My Grandfather is a great piano player, Mom is an awesome singer, and my Brother played drums for a while.”

Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?
“Vince Gill for his tone on guitar and songwriting, Will Hoge, Sean McConnell, Chris Knight, Gary Allan, and Seth James are all just great writers and players. “

What are your fondest musical memories?
“It was a 4th of July concert at Possum Hollow and The Departed were headlining. Before they took the stage, I got to play my current single "The Cost of Freedom" with a line of veterans standing behind me including my Dad to a packed house. It was incredibly moving for me. “

Were you influenced by old records & tapes?
“We always had a pretty good collection of tapes at the house mostly 90's country.”

Who are your favorite musicians?
“Will Hoge, Sean McConnell, Seth James, Vince Gill, Dwight Yoakum, Gary Allan, and Lincoln Durham.”

What is a typical week like for you?
“I'm currently in the Commercial Music Program at South Plains Tues and Thurs. The rest of the week i practice, i write, and work out.”

Best place to eat while on the road?
“I try to find the best BBQ place in town.”

What's the best town play in?

Since everyone was a startup once, can you give any smaller or local bands looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
“Work hard, practice, be patient, and network. The more people you know the better. If you haven't been able to book gigs do those 4 things, same for getting in with DJ's and radio.”
