As you can probably tell if you follow country music there is a little bit of drama going on. First this it was drama with this quote   “If you’re not on country radio, you don’t exist.”- Sony Music Nashville CEO Gary Overton. Okay what radio are we talking about? The reason I ask is because several of my favorite artists are not played on big Nashville stations. Not that I really listen to big Nashville stations but still. Just because you are not played on Nashville doesn’t mean you don’t exist.

Recently Aaron Watson released his latest album the Underdog. That went to #1 downloaded album on ITunes for a week right above Sam Hunt. (Which Sam Hunt is a Nashville country singer if you never heard of him.) “My name is Aaron Watson. I’m not played on country radio. And I have the number one record in country music this week. I do exist,” Watson told Saving Country Music. Well any way Aaron Watson was in town for the #CRS (Country Radio Seminar) where Bobby Bones is recorded. So Aaron shows up to give Bobby his cd. Well then that started the great #sweetheartdebate. Okay here is the story Aaron sends a tweet out to Bobby saying that he is at the station. So Bobby is recording so he sends out his producer Alanya out. Aaron asked if he could talk to Bobby, shake his hand and give him his cd. And apparently like Aaron always does he adds a little Texas Twang to whatever he says. He added at the end of his comment “sweetheart.” Well Alanya thought he said in a derogatory way. (As a women who has met and even interviewed Aaron several times. I know that Aaron would never say anything in a rude way to a lady. He has the most respect towards women.)

Alanya said, “Don’t call a girl sweetheart.” Okay #1 Aaron can call me sweetheart anytime. #2 she is more than likely not from Texas or the South. I mean I say it all the time. I say it to everyone and if they have don’t like it they can tell me they don’t like and I move on. During the broadcast Bobby compared calling someone a Sweetheart to A**hole. I mean those are completely different things.
At that point Aaron calls the show to apologize like a true Texas Gentleman should. Aaron explained that he just wanted to drop by the cd and shake Bobby’s hand. He also compared what happen to when Kris Kristopherson flew in a helicopter into Johnny Cash’s place to give him a cd. He went on to say that was his helicopter moment to just surprise him with a cd.  And to thank them for playing his song “Fence Post” on the air. He also mention about his little girl JoLee Kate that if some were to say the word “Sweetheart” then he would jump into her defense every time.

To add to the pot after Aaron apologized he offered to donate $1,000 to Bobby’s Charity.

So this weekend we had another incident this time with the band Flordia Georgia Line and the amazing song writer Charlie Robinson. It all started when Charlie wrote out about how he felt about Overton’s quote to the Tennessean. The Flordia Georgia sent this tweet out to Charlie:

The response Charlie sent out was perfect!! I just have to say that.

Don't forget if you support the Texas-Red Dirt music use the hashtag #wedoexist
