Album Review:: Cody Jinks's I'm Not the Devil

Saturday, October 8, 2016

This week's album review will cover the most recent release of Cody Jinks's I'm Not the Devi. I truly feel like this record will completely change the minds of simple pop country listeners. It will expand their minds and probably blow their minds in layman terms.

When I hear the record I get glimpse of great country artists such as Johnny Cash, George Jones, and a hint of Hank Williams Sr. Real people who built country music not the people who shredded it to pieces.

One of my favorite tracks of the album is Give it all You Can. I really like the song because the lyrics in the song are so true. For me words mean something, this song speaks truth. The whole song really takes me back to the pews of church. Sometimes you just need a song to take you to another place, and this song does it.

I really feel like the whole album is incredibly emotional. Someone may ask why do you like an emotional album? If you don't feel something when you listen to it what is the point in listening to it? If you truly love music with meaning you will love I'm Not the Devil.

I got to sit down with one of the musicians who had the opportunity to play on the album. The steel guitar player Johnny "UP" Shadid. "We rerecorded in four separate sessions on the border of Mexico. We did it in four so we could go on tour for awhile and come back and maybe add something different to the album. The first session we had the idea of getting four songs recorded. While recording Cody had the chance to write a little more for record. While we were there we had the chance  re vamped the song No Words off of the first EP. The night before we  one of the sessions we just set down and jammed and by the end we had Heavy Load and I'm not the Devil.I feel like that night completely reshaped the record."

In the world of Luke Bryans, Jason Aldeans, and Flordia- Georgia lines, Cody Jinks is really a breath of fresh air. I feel like Cody Jinks put a fresh twist in the scene with fresh tones from the fiddle and great riffs from the steel guitar. take a moment and listen to Cody Jinks's music you won't regrets about it.
