Book: The Man Who Carried Cash: Saul Holiff, Johnny Cash, and the Making of an American Icon
Author: Julie Chadwick

I found out about this book when the author Julie Chadwick followed me on twitter. I scrolled around her twitter page and realized someone else had an obsessing of Johnny Cash similar to mine. I am always willing to learn something new about him or the people associated with him. So I jumped at the chance to review a book about Saul Holiff.

I was in literally tears by the first few pages. The way Chadwick wrote about Holiff's suicide just freaked me out a little but made me want to read more. I learned more about Holiff and Cash's life than any other book I have read in my lifetime.

The structure Chadwick chose to write the book was really incredible. I have to compare it the film that Holiff's son made about his life. They were both incredible works of art.

I really hope to read more from Chadwick in the near future.

4.5 star out of 5 stars

  1. Thanks for the review. I'm gonna check this book out. RD

  2. I love it when characters move me to tears. Sometimes fictional characters are more real to me than the real ones.

  3. I grew up in a "country" home and I had never heard of Holiff, so I would be interested in reading this myself. I heard more about June Carter Cash through most of my childhood, but I remember my grandmother loved the entire Cash family. It would be interesting to read more about him and those connected with him.

  4. Great review. Next time I'm on a non-fiction kick, I may have to check this book out. - Katie

  5. I like Cash a lot. I need to add this to my TBR.
